In the magic community, we are very lucky, in that we often get the chance to meet both our performing heros and heroines, some of whom on a weekly basis at The Magic Circle.
I have had the pleasure of meeting David Copperfield both in Las Vegas and at a private gala event after one of his London Shows to which I was invited, Siegfried and Roy, Lance Burton and Jeff Hobson again in Vegas, as well as Paul Daniels, Derren Brown, and many of the magical greats in London and around the country.
Perhaps in other forms of entertainment, this sort of thing is not quite so common, so I was delighted for my daughter Emily, who has just finished her first year of a degree course in Theatre Dance at the London Studio Centre in London, when we went to Sadler’s Wells theatre on Sunday evening
We had gone along to see Matthew Bourne’s ‘The Car Man’, a superb dance show based on the music from Bizet’s ‘Carmen’, and one which I would thoroughly recommend to anyone. On this particular evening there was a gala event and Emily had the chance to meet and chat to Darcey Bussell, former principal dance at the Royal Ballet and Carlos Acosta Principal Guest Artist of the Royal Ballet. What two very charming and delightful people to meet, both of whom have reached the very top of their profession, and both kind enough to spend some time talking to and have their photo taken with Emily. Her two favourite people from the world of dance together.
