Hailed as the hottest day of the decade, July 1st saw me travelling on the tube trying to stay cool enroute to The Magic Circle in London, for the second Educational Day we have run for young children, and just before 10.30am about 70 children descended on the, thankfully, air conditioned Headquarters of the World’s leading Magical Society.
The children, split into groups rotated round three different parts of the building, firstly the museum where they were treated to some storytelling and a look at some of the artifacts covering the The Magic Circles history, followed by a Drama and Communications workshop with two of the countries leading magicians, Richard McDougall and Christopher Howell, and then downstairs to our clubroom where organiser Chris Woods gave a demonstration on the history of Close Up magic.
Finally, everyone made their way up to the venues theatre, where they were greeted by Magic Circle President Scott Penrose, who talked about the heritage of classic magic effects and what was the first recorded magic trick.
This is the second such day that we have run, both have proved to have been extremely popular, with a unique insight to The Magic Circle
